The results are in, and we are hugely proud to announce that MVA's GCSE students have achieved incredible results in this year's exams.
At the time of writing, 67.1% of results were awarded a 9-4, which meets the national domestic statistic in the UK, and 21.6% achieved 9-7. We expect these to rise slightly with some results still to come in, but this is already a fantastic result considering the serious challenges that many of our students have faced in their education.
Where we are particularly proud, however, is in the results for English Language and Maths, where 82.4% and 71.5% of MVA students respectively achieved 9-4, compared to a national average of 59.7% in English and 58.2% in Maths.
Furthermore, 32.4% of English Language students achieved 9-7, more than double the national average of 15.5%.
These stats include the 122 students who took their exams remotely through Pearson's Remote Invigilation Service, a group encompassing many students who faced extra challenges, required additional learning support, and even some who joined partway through their iGCSE program due to circumstances outside their control.
All of this goes to support the central assertion behind Minerva and online schooling as a whole: when you give children the individual support and attention they need, they will excel and thrive.
Well done to all our GCSE students, we are all very very proud of you.
This success follows the incredible achievements of MVA6 students in their A-Level and BTEC subjects over the summer, with graduates now headed to universities across the UK and abroad.
In our second group of graduates this year, a quarter of grades were A or A*, while more than half were A* to C.
The vast majority of graduates have also been accepted into their first choice of university, including:
University of Exeter
Aberystwyth University
Manchester Metropolitan University
University of Roehampton
Robert Gordon University
Lehigh University (Pennsylvania, USA)
Others are pursuing alternate routes including direct entry into employment, further education, or a well deserved gap year.
We are immensely proud of all of these achievements because, not only have some students reached top grades, these numbers also represent many many students who have made huge academic progress and overcome significant obstacles in their school journey before and since joining Minerva.
Principal Suzanne Lindley said:
“We are delighted with the achievements of our second cohort of MVA6 students; it is a real testament to all their hard work and resilience, with many joining MVA after challenging experiences in traditional school settings. All our students, and especially our athletes, have shown how flexible learning enables them to balance academic success with their sporting commitments. These outcomes are a credit to the nurturing culture at MVA and the determination of these incredible young people. This year, as we celebrate five years of MVA, we are especially proud of how our Sixth Form continues to grow, supporting highly accomplished young people to achieve their ambitions.”
Matthew Morris, Head of Sixth Form, added:
“I am incredibly proud of our Sixth Form students’ results this year. Whether they joined us seeking academic excellence or a more personalised approach to learning, our flexible model has supported them all, regardless of their starting point. Their hard work and determination are evident in these results, as is the unwavering support provided by their teachers and mentors. Well done to all.”
An extremely heartfelt congratulations from us all at Minerva, we are so proud of you all.
And you should be proud of yourselves, too.
Wherever life takes you next, we hope that your time at MVA has helped to give you the best possible start.
