Most Asked

What does a typical day look like at MVA?

Every student has a personalised timetable that blends group Live Lessons, self-paced learning, one-to-one mentoring, and optional co-curricular and social activities. Lessons are scheduled across the week, but there’s flexibility to work when it suits your child best. Most students log in each morning, attend two to three live sessions across the day, and complete independent work with support from their mentor.

How does pastoral support work at MVA?

Every student is assigned a dedicated Personal Mentor who checks in weekly and supports their academic progress and wellbeing. Your child's mentor is trained to spot when they need extra help, and sends bi-weekly reports to keep you up to date with progress.

What qualifications do your teachers have?

All our teachers are fully qualified subject specialists, many of whom have taught in top UK independent schools. They bring a wealth of classroom experience and a passion for online education. Several also hold advanced degrees or examiner positions.

“Every student and family at MVA receives individual support, and we’re here to help you find what works best for you.”

How do Live Lessons and self-paced learning work together?

We use a flipped learning model. Students begin each topic by working through content on our Virtual Learning Platform (Canvas), where they access videos, readings, and tasks at their own pace. Live Lessons then focus on deepening understanding, discussion, and applying what’s been learned. After the lesson, students return to the platform to consolidate their knowledge before moving on to the next module together.

What is the difference between a teacher and a mentor at MVA?

Teachers focus on imparting knowledge and academic skills, while mentors concentrate on individual guidance and personal development, ensuring each student is seen, heard and supported in their MVA journey. For more information, see our Mentoring page.

How does Minerva’s Virtual Academy support student wellbeing?

Wellbeing is woven into everything we do. Alongside regular mentor check-ins, students have access to mindfulness sessions, social clubs, and dedicated pastoral support.

How does MVA stretch and challenge students?

We tailor learning to each student’s potential. On our Virtual Learning Platform, students have access to “Extend” tasks designed to push them beyond the core curriculum. We also pair students with a Personal Mentor who understands their goals and helps them get the most out of their studies, whether that’s aiming for top grades, exploring a subject in more depth, or accelerating through learning material.
