Beyond The Classroom

At MVA, education extends far beyond the classroom. Students take part in enrichment weeks, wellbeing programmes and engaging after-school clubs. These experiences empower them to grow socially, emotionally and creatively - ensuring a well-rounded and fulfilling learning journey.

AI Club

  • Open to all

Open to anyone who wants to explore artificial intelligence, and its applications, possibilities, and future among a group of open minded individuals. AI club looks at the history of the technology, how it can be a force for good, and gives students opportunities to get hands-on with training and engaging witht their own AI projects in a safe environment. As part of the club, you'll learn to become an ambassador for the safe use of AI within our MVA community and in the wider world, and will find yourself better equipped to navigate a world where AI is increasingly intertwined into everything.

Art Club

  • Open to all

Art is for everyone, as is this club. Our weekly, hour-long art club provides a calm and unpressured space to explore and create within a wide variety of themes and techniques in art and design. Students of all abilities and ambitions are welcome. If you're just looking to discuss and explore your interest among like-minded people, this is the place for you. If you're looking to get support and guidance in building up a portfolio of work, this is also the place for you. If you're anywhere in between, you are welcome. Art is for all. Why not come along and give it a try?

Chess Club

  • Open to all

Chess isn't just a game, it's a workout for your brain! Did you know that playing chess regularly has been shown to improve your memory and problem-solving skills? Chess club is open to any and all, whether you're a chess prodigy or it's your first time at the board. This is a at-your-own-pace, supportive place to learn the basics, and gradually improve through friendly competition against other students and teachers. If you're looking to flex your chess muscles, or just want to stretch your brain, join us for a game or two.

Cooking & Baking Club

  • Open to all
  • Parent supervision required for practical sessions

Food is a big part of culture, and with MVA's global community, there's a lot of culture to explore! Any and all are welcome to join us as we take a culinary journey through history and around the world. The club works on a two-week cycle, with Week A usually involving sharing ideas and recipes, and Week B being where we have a go at bringing them to life. If you enjoy creating, sharing and eating delicious food, please join us as we celebrate our cultural diversity through tasty dishes!

Creative Writing

  • Creative Writing KS3 open to Years 7-9
  • Creative Writing KS4 open to Years 10-11

If you're interested in developing your creative writing skills in a friendly, non-judgemental environment, you've found it. Join us for a 45-minute workshop every other week where we'll explore a range of different stimuli, ideas and exercises to get your brain working and your words flowing. There is no obligation for anything you write to be shared with the group, so if you'd like to keep what you create to yourself, that's no problem! Students will learn new techniques, share inspirations, and build confidence in their own abilities in a playful and supportive space where there are no bad ideas, and plenty of stories to tell.

Debate Club

  • Open to all
  • Students must be willing to speak and appear on camera

Learn about global issues whilst developing your own communication and critical thinking skills in a supportive and encouraging enviornment. Research interesting topics, learn how to formulate logical and structured arguments, and get the opportunity to put them to the test in friendly debates with your peers. Debate club is about learning to express yourself clearly, and mutual respect - we have a non-negotiable set of rules on remaining civil and calm, providing a space to grow as an authentic and informed individual without fear of personal attack. We're here to work together to break down issues. If that sounds interesting and exciting to you, join us!

Film Makers

Would you like to make a film? Are you an actor, director, script writer or animator? Film makers club gives you the opportunity to bring your creative vision to life through cutting-edge technology like Unreal Engine, 3D modelling and CGI, as well as learning the importance of teamwork when bringing together the many different aspects of a creative project. Join us as we break down what makes a good and compelling film, what each role in the team actually does, and get the opportunity to bring your own project to life together with your fellow filmmakers.

Generation Global

  • Open to all
  • Students must be willing to speak and appear on camera

Generation Global is the Tony Blair Institute's global citizenship education programme for young people, designed to help them embrace the future, equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become active and open-minded global citizens. Students will join Generation Global's Ultimate Dialogue Adventure, exploring topics related to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Every month, students will get the opportunity to take park in a Global Dialogue session with other young people from all over the planet, discussing and tackling the global challenges faced by the world.

High Performance Club

  • By invitation, for athletes who meet eligibility criteria:
  • Must be training at least 3 times per week and competing regularly
  • Must have aspirations to compete at a higher level
  • Must be competing at a County level or equivalent as a minimum, depending on your sport

Join MVA thriving global athlete community to collectively and mutually grow and support each other in your careers. Led by MVA's athlete mentoring team, which includes Olympians and ex-professional athletes, students will be supported in every aspect of young athletic life, from physical and mental health (led by sports psychologist Dr Callum Gowling) to balancing training and competing with school and free time.

LGBTQ+ Club

  • Open to LGBTQ+ students and supportive allies

LGBTQ+ club serves as a beacon of support, empowerment and community for individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or any other sexual orientation or gender identity. Join us for a weekly celebration of diversity and inclusivity, in a safe and welcoming environment where students can express themselves freely, tackle challenging issues and celebrate role models without fear of discrimination or judgement. The club aims to provide a reliable support network for students looking to understand their identity, or support their friends, through workshops, discussions, and games, as well as providing important resources and discussions to help all of us feel more understood and accepted for who we are.

Neurodiversity Club

  • Open to neurodiverse students, with or without an official SEND diagnosis

Neurodiversity club is a safe inclusive space for neurodiverse students to come along, socialise and support each other. Led by MVA's SEND team, students aren't required to share anything about themselves they don't want to in order to take part. The main aim of these sessions is simply to have fun. Any and all comfort items are welcome and encouraged, as we explore different themes and topics through activities and games, learning to better understand ourselves and each other.

The SEND team is also available to provide individual support or advice if needed, as well as the wider group should you feel comfortable sharing your experiences.

Peter Jones Foundation Home Academy

  • Open to Year 10 students and Year 12 business students
  • Additional charge applies

Bringing together a community of passionate young entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders, the PJF Home Academy Club is designed to be a supportive environment where you can fuel your ambitions, exchange ideas, and gain valuable insights from industry experts. You'll be expected to work through the resources on the PJF Home Academy platform largely in your own time, with monthly Flash Challenges which you will submit directly to PJF. Club sessions with focus on your theoretical understanding of business concepts and supporting you in this work.

Students will also have the opportunity to prepare and submit to the PJF national tycoon competition in the summer term.

Photography Club

  • Open to all

Whether you're using a professional camera or your phone, whether you're an experience phtographer or this is your first time lining up a shot, join us for a weekly deep dive into everything that makes a great photo. We'll study shot composition, lighting, image editing, digital environments, photo development, and the evolution of the camera throughout time (even touching on spy cameras!). We'll look at the work of great photographers, and head out into the world together to create our own photographs, support each other and, most importantly, have fun.

Who runs the School Trips?

Our trips are primarily run by our Headmaster Lawrence, who very much enjoys planning a day outside the staff room! Lawrence is support by MVA teachers and mentors who equally enjoy their moments to meet their students in person.
