"A Blessing in Disguise" - Darsh's Story of Disruption, Stability, and Resilience
By the time Darsh joined MVA in September 2024, he had already been to a lot of schools.
International careers had taken his family from India, to Tanzania, the UK, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the UAE. Each move had meant a new school, a setback in academics, and having to start from scratch socially with a new group of peers.
That is, until, Darsh found MVA.
This is a growing demographic for families embracing online schooling - those who, whether for work or pure lifestyle, don't stay settled for long in one place. Because, when your school can come with you, it doesn't matter where you happen to be in the world, or for how long.
Your teachers, friends, studies, clubs and mentors are only ever a click or a tap away.
And so Darsh settled into a school experience that he could finally guarantee would not change or come to a halt even if he had to move again, with his father saying:
Online school was a blessing in disguise. [Darsh] could continue his education without missing a class.
This year, however, disruption returned from a new source, as conflict erupted in the Middle East. Schools across the UAE were suspended amid frequent drone alerts and, eventually, exams across the country were entirely cancelled with very little notice.
Darsh, like many of our students in the area, suddenly found himself facing the prospect of yet more disruption, with the exams he had already studied so much for being pushed back at least a year.
I had worked really hard for these exams, and the sudden disruption threw me off. But I didn't want to give up and lose a full year.
But, while MVA worked hard to make alternative arrangements for our students, Darsh and his family worked faster. Within 24 hours, they had secured a new exam entry at a centre in Romford and got Darsh on a flight to the UK.
In a display of incredible resilience and determination, Darsh made that 3,400 mile journey twice, sitting eight papers in total over just 36 days.
And, we are thrilled to announce, this effort paid off. Darsh achieved a phenomenal AABB across Maths, Economics, Chemistry and Business Studies, and has secured a spot at UCL to study a Master's in Management Science.
This is an incredible outcome, particularly in such difficult circumstances, and we are all unbelievably proud, along with all our other students in the Middle East who overcame extraordinary conditions this exam season.
