A team of MVA staff and teachers this week headed to Muscular Quiztrophy 2026 to flex their knowledge and raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK, the leading charity for over 60 muscle wasting and weakening conditions, and a deeply important cause very close to Founder Hugh Viney's heart.
The evening got off to a promising start, with the team getting a full 8 points in the first round, thanks to Science Teacher Jack Child successfully arguing that the most common element in the human body is not carbon, as many non-science teachers incorrectly assumed, but oxygen.
Things began to look a bit shakier, however, in subsequent rounds, and the team dropped a few points on the name of Keanu Reeve's character in Point Break (Johnny Utah), the godmother of Elton John's children (Lady Gaga), and the number of hearts in an octopus (3).
With only the final round to go, the team (named 'Virtually Unstoppable') was in joint second place, with several points between them and pole position.
What the team hadn't kept track of, however, was which teams had already played their points-doubling 'joker' cards and which ones hadn't.
It turns out, pretty much everyone already had, and Virtually Unstoppable romped home, doubling their points on what was actually their weakest round, with only 5 correct answers out of 8, and pulling ahead by 8 points overall.

The real winner of the night, of course, was Muscular Dystrophy UK itself, for which the evening was raising money through entry fees, raffles, games, and drinks sales.
It's a phenomenally important cause, and the leading UK charity dedicated to beating muscular dystrophy and other related muscle-wasting conditions by finding treatments and cures, and by improving the lives of those affected.
Over the past half-century, the charity has been instrumental in vital scientific and medical breakthroughs in the field, with multiple potential treatments in or approaching clinical trials, with promising results.
For conditions which are often severely life-altering or even fatal, this is a huge step forward, and we are deeply proud that our team of quizzers was able to contribute to this fantastic fundraising event and cause.
