A Levels coming Sept 2022

We are pleased to announce that our A Level programme will begin at the start of the coming academic year in September 2022.

We are currently taking registrations.

A Level programme.

A Level students at Minerva's Virtual Academy will typically study 3 subjects alongside a vibrant programme of enrichment and preparation for further study and adult life. There is a wide range of subjects to choose from, including Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English, French, Geography, History, Maths, Further Maths, Media Studies, Physics, Psychology, Spanish and Travel & Tourism.

Students learn through a combination of interactive, small group live subject lessons taught by specialist teachers and modules of self-study work on Canvas (our Virtual Learning Platform). They also benefit from the support of an academic and personal mentor whose subject specialism is linked to the student's subject choices. Students following three courses have 6 hours of live subject lessons per week and all have a dedicated hour of 1-to-1 time per fortnight with their mentor - after which the mentor writes an update report for parents. Students are able to form 'Study Groups' with their classmates, and structure and complete their self-study work via Canvas around their live lesson schedule.

If a student wishes to study other subjects, or requires on-going extra support in a specific subject or for special education needs, we can organise expert 1-to-1 tutoring as a separate arrangement through Minerva Tutors. This means it is possible to put together a bespoke support package that best suits the individual in question.

In addition to their subjects, all Sixth Form students take part in our enrichment programme, which includes:

Symposia - interesting and relevant 6-week cross-curricular courses, taught for one hour per week, designed to develop critical and creative thinking skills in preparation for university study

Life Skills - from cooking to managing a budget to healthy lifestyles, taught for 30 minutes per week and designed to ensure that graduating Academy students have the skills needed to thrive in life beyond school

Minerva Galactic Award - a bespoke self-development programme spanning Year 12, involving completion of an academic project of personal interest, volunteering, fundraising, event organisation, young enterprise and more

Students also have the opportunity to sign up for one or more clubs (extra termly charge) - from debating to art, chess, film production and app design, there is something for everyone! There are also regular online socials, termly opportunities for students to meet up in person, and school trips.
